ABOUT

CONFLICT.PHOTOGRAPHY is an independent, non-profit project, which pursues to strengthen the visual literacy of academics, photographers, photo editors and viewers regarding the subject matter of past, present and future conflicts.

Our working definition of violent conflict is a perceived incompatibility of political intentions between conflict actors, which manifests itself in physical violence. Based on that, we focus on the visual framing of intra- and interstate conflicts in journalism and social media.

Initiated in 2020 by two photo editors based in Berlin, this project combines multi-disciplinary views from peace and conflict research, photography, photo editing and visual journalism and communication.

CONFLICT.PHOTOGRAPHY is still in the early stages of its creation. You can get updates on our latest progress by following us on instagram.
